Our Adventure Story: From Dreams to Expeditions

Aventuras Tours was founded in Loreto in 2021 by Jeff and Elena, a couple brought together by a shared love of adventure, the outdoors and Baja California Sur. Jeff is originally from Whistler, British Columbia, where mountains, biking, skiing and outdoor adventure are part of everyday life. His passion has always been more focused on the off-road side of Baja — exploring remote trails, desert routes, mountain roads and participating in motorsports events such as the Baja 1000 and NORRA. Elena is from Alburquerque, Spain, and her world has always been closely connected to the ocean. She has been a PADI scuba diving instructor for more than 15 years, working professionally in some of the world’s most remarkable diving destinations, including Thailand, the Maldives, the Philippines, Spain and Mexico. Her experience in diving, marine environments and working with guests from around the world plays an important role in the ocean side of Aventuras.

Together, they created Aventuras around a simple idea: to offer the kind of experiences they would want to have themselves — personal, well organized, authentic and genuinely memorable. What began with weekends exploring Baja’s arroyos, ranch roads, mountains and coastline gradually grew into a full adventure company offering experiences on both land and sea. On land, Jeff’s years of off-road experience influence the way Aventuras prepares its vehicles, plans routes, manages logistics and operates in remote areas of Baja. Experience in events such as the Baja 1000 and NORRA has helped shape a strong culture of preparation, communication and safety. We ride the routes ourselves, test our equipment and maintain our vehicles specifically for Baja conditions. On the water, Elena’s extensive diving background and knowledge of marine environments help shape our ocean experiences. Diving, snorkeling, fishing, exploring the islands and observing Baja’s extraordinary marine wildlife have given us an intimate knowledge of the Sea of Cortez and Loreto Bay National Park. This combination of Jeff’s off-road experience and Elena’s marine expertise allows us to show our guests two very different sides of Loreto — from remote desert trails, arroyos and mountain ranch roads to islands, reefs, wildlife and open water.

We are an owner-operated company, and we remain personally involved in the experiences we offer. We are not interested in mass tourism or running the largest possible number of tours. Our priority is quality. That means keeping groups small, choosing the right guides and captains, maintaining good equipment, planning carefully and making sure every guest feels looked after from the moment they arrive until the adventure is over. Small groups also allow us to be flexible. Every guest is different, so whenever possible we adjust the pace, route and experience to suit the people we are guiding rather than simply following the same itinerary every day. Our local knowledge comes from spending years exploring this area ourselves. We know the well-known places, but we also know the arroyos, ranch roads, remote trails, islands, dive sites, seasonal wildlife and changing conditions that you only learn by living here and being outside year-round. Today, the Aventuras team includes guides, captains, mechanics and hosts from Mexico, Canada, the United States and Spain. We live here, ride here, dive here, fish here and explore these waters throughout the year. We also believe that adventure comes with responsibility. We respect Baja’s communities, landscapes and wildlife, and we want the places we enjoy today to remain just as special for the people who come after us.

For us, Aventuras is not about simply taking someone from one attraction to another. It is about sharing the Baja we know — the places we ride, dive and explore ourselves — and giving our guests a deeper, more personal experience of this incredible part of Mexico. We created Aventuras to share the Baja we know — not from a brochure, but from years of riding, diving, racing and exploring it ourselves.
