In short
- When is Semana Santa in 2027?
- March 21 to 28, with Easter Sunday on March 28. It overlaps with US and Canadian spring break.
- Is Loreto good for families?
- Yes. It's calm and unhurried, with gentle water, short drives and small groups.
- What are the best things to do in Loreto with kids on spring break?
- The Coronado Island tour and the San Javier e-bike tour are the easiest wins.
- Can kids join the UTV or e-bike tours?
- The e-bike tour is recommended for ages 12 and up. For the UTV, drivers must be 18+ with a license, and younger passengers depend on age and size, so contact us.
- Will we see whales in late March?
- Maybe. Whale season is roughly January to March, so late March sightings are possible but not guaranteed. Ask us.
- Should we book ahead?
- Yes. Holy Week is high season, so book hotels, restaurants and tours early.
- How do we get to Loreto?
- Fly in from LA, SF, Phoenix, Dallas, Tijuana or Calgary, or drive about four hours from La Paz or six from Cabo.
Your kid is still laughing about the sea lion that popped up beside the boat. The ceviche is on a white-sand beach, the paddleboards are in the water, and it isn't even noon. Nobody's checking a clock.
That's the pace we aim for at Aventuras Tours Loreto.
What Semana Santa Feels Like Here
Loreto was founded in 1697 and calls itself the "Head and Mother of the Missions." It's a Pueblo Mágico, and Holy Week here stays calm and unhurried. Local families camp on the beaches at Juncalito, Salinita, La Negrita and Requesón, and the malecón fills in the evenings. A mission visit is a quiet highlight; service times vary, so check with the parish. It's high season, so book hotels, restaurants and tours early.
Six Things to Do With Your Crew
Coronado Island tour. About five hours, leaving at 9 a.m. in a shaded 26-ft panga. Volcanic cliffs, snorkeling near the sea lion colony when conditions allow, then fresh ceviche on a white-sand beach with paddleboards, chairs and shade. Back around 2 p.m. MXN 1,800.
Carmen Island tour. Five hours, and wilder: hidden coves, sea caves, cliffs up to 30 m, an old salt mine. MXN 2,400. For families who'd rather look than snorkel.
San Javier Mission e-bike tour. Four hours, mostly downhill. A van takes you up the mountain road, then you coast about 35 km on pavement past a historic village and a 300-year-old olive tree. Beginner-friendly, recommended age 12+, food and drinks included. MXN 3,300. Specialized Turbo Levo e-bikes with pedal-assist, so nobody suffers on the climbs.
Half-day Speed UTV tour. Four hours through sandy arroyos and cardón cactus forests on real Baja 1000 terrain, ending with a meal at a local restaurant. If you've typed "UTV near me" and gotten a parking-lot ride, this is the other thing. Drivers 18+ with a license; passengers need none, and younger passengers depend on age and size, so contact us. MXN 6,000. Season runs October to May.
KTM dirt bike tours. Experienced riders only, KTM 300s, no training offered, 20+ recommended. Half-day single-track is advanced, MXN 5,400. Mission to Agua Verde, six to eight hours, is for intermediate and experienced riders, MXN 6,500.
Three-day Baja Coast-to-Coast UTV expedition. Loreto to San Javier, San Carlos, San Juanico (Scorpion Bay), back via La Purísima. Meals, lodging and logistics handled. MXN 54,000, minimum four people, and ask us about ages.
